Karin Hilmer Pedersen is in charge of the Demstar sub-program on Modernization and Europeanization of transition countries. This program focuses on the political economy of regulation and legal reform.

Hilmer Pedersen has published on legal reform in transition countries, political and economic changes in Russia, and regulatory aspects of agricultural run-off pollution in the Baltic States. Most recent publications include “Development, law and democracy. Exploring a new relationship“ Chapter 5 in Hyden and Elgstrøm (eds.), Democracy and Development: London, Routledge, 2002 (with Ole Norgaard), and “Russia and the rule of law” Politica, 2001, 33:2 (in Danish. A revised English version was ”The Rechtsstaat and the rule of law in Russia”, was presented at the ECPR General Conference, Canterbury, UK, 6-9th September 2001: Section 10 Political Change in Post-Communist Eastern Europe, Panel no 7. Questions of Russian democracy.)

Cand.scient.pol. 1989. Ph.D. 1996 in sociology of law. 1990-1993 Researcher at the South Jutland University Centre, Esbjerg, Denmark. 1992-1996 Member of the Advisory Committee for Danish bilateral aid to former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. 1996-2001 Consultant works on changes in social and property rights in transition countries. 1998-2000 Assistant professor. 2001 – date Associate professor in comparative politics, University of Aarhus.
